From 15-17 October 2014 IOM gathered frontline Georgian Patrol Police border officials from several land and air checkpoints for second tier training in document examination.
The Working Group of the State Commission on Migration Issues working on the Consolidation of Reintegration Activities gathered for its 9th extended meeting in Courtyard Marriott Hotel on 15th October.
For the purpose of familiarizing Georgian reader with the terminology commonly used worldwide in the sphere of migration, the Secretariat of the State Commission on Migration Issues translated the Glossary on Migration (IOM, Geneva, 2004).
From 7-9 October IOM organised a workshop for officials from the Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The goal of the workshop was to make progress in developing Standard Operating Procedures for the new migrant holding centre in Tbilisi.
The Workshop - ,,Migrant Integration before Departure: Perspectives, Approaches and Supporting Measures’’ took place in Rome, Italy on 24-25 September 2014 and focused on promoting exchange of practises between pre-departure integration service providers. Pre-departure orientation practices and policies were presented in national context by different countries.
Under the EU funded "Enhanced Cooperation for Secure Borders and Safe Migration" IOM trained 24 officers from the Revenue Service of Georgia in Secure Document and Forgery Examination. The training course was held in Tbilisi from 23-25 September 2014 at the Academy of the Ministry of Finance.
From 17 to 19 September Georgian prosecutors gathered in the town of Kachreti to participate in a training dedicated to enhancing their capacities in prosecuting the crime of trafficking in human beings.
On 2 September IOM transferred technical equipment to the Counter-Trafficking Task Force, which is an entity operating from Batumi under the Criminal Police Department in the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia.
On 2 September 2014, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Mission to Georgia held an Information Meeting concerning the Open Call for Proposals for the Social Enterprises’ Grant Project.
The Law of Georgia on the Legal Status of Aliens and Stateless Persons came into force on 1st September 2014.
