Global Migration Film Festival / გლობალური ფილმების ფესტივალი მიგრაციის თემაზე

The Global Migration Film Festival showcases films that capture the promise and challenges of migration for those who leave their homes in search of a better life and the contributions they make to their new communities. The films will be screened in English. Entrance is free

Film: "Roots” (Drama, 25 min)

Time and location: 7 pm, Drama Faculty Building of the Shota Rustaveli Theatre and Film Georgia State University, 19 Rustaveli Ave.
Short description: Angelo is a son of Italian immigrants, like many others. Born in Saint Claude in France, he worked all his life in a garage, until his recent retirement. As the snow begins to cover the surrounding mountains, Angelo begins to dream of fi his Sicilian roots. His goal, which is achieved, shows the magnetic pull of one’s roots.

Film: "the Weight of the Blanket" (Documentary, 35 min) by OTOXO Productions

Short description: On the streets of Barcelona immigrants struggle to survive through illegal street selling. After many years of relentless racism and constant persecution by the police, they have finally found a voice and created a union. Their demands are simple: more understanding, more awareness and more dignity. This documentary follows their struggle.

Film: "the Impure" (Documentary, 69 min) by Daniel Najenson

Short description: In the early 20th century, Argentinian Jewish pimps were called ‘the impure’. They built a network of vicious organizations trafficking thousands of Eastern-European Jewish women. “The Impure” tells the story of Jewish and non-Jewish women who were exploited and turned into prostitutes against their will.

Film: “Problemski Hotel” (Drama, Comedy, 106 min)

Short description: "Problemski Hotel” is a movie about Bipul’s life in an endless, futureless round of queues at a purgatory for citizenship in Belgium. The situation becomes more desolate in December, but the arrival of Lidia, a Russian girl, makes his experience less lonely. It is a bleak and hopeless situation – until help arrives in an unexpected form.

Film: “the Adventure of the Red Suitcase” (Documentary, 40 min) by Richard Soriano Legaspi

Short description: "Le avventure della Valigia Rossa» or "The Adventures of the Red Suitcase" is part of the Red Suitcase Documentary narratives. Roan Asuncion, has been known to be the youngest weaver of migrants in the Piemonte region. Her small food store serves as a spindle that connects other nationalities due to the variety of food offered at her mini-mart.

Film: “the Deportation of Innocence” (Documentary, 52 min) by Francisco Alarcón

Short description: An estimated 5.5 million children live with at least one undocumented parent in the US. What happens to children when their parents are deported from the United States? What is the US going to do when these American children grow up and come to understand that their country denied them the chance to grow up with their parents? “The Deportation of Innocence” explores the effects of forced deportation on the children left behind.

Short description: "The Cambridge Squatter" tells the story of refugees, recently arrived in Brazil who, together with a group of low-income workers, occupy an old abandoned building in downtown São Paulo. Daily dramas, comical situations and different views on the world commingle with the threat of impending eviction.
