14 - 15 April 2016

Under the EU-funded More for More project, IOM’s Border Management Specialist Mark Richmond provided document security and fraud training for 20 officers from the Revenue Service at Sarpi border checkpoint in Adjara. This is the fifth such course delivered under the project that has been specifically targeted at Revenue Service officers with responsibility for operating the frontline immigration control for heavy good vehicles and medium sized commercial vehicles.

It is particularly essential that Revenue Service officers at Sarpi have a high level of travel document examination knowledge as the border checkpoint is by some margin the busiest in Georgia. During the training there was additional useful discussion of related matters such as the increasing value of Georgian passports on the black market as a consequence of EU visa liberalization.
